Miss Melody- Miri Ben Ari
Ok so shez not black and technically she shouldn't come under the black series,but we have to make an exception for hip hop first violinist - Miss Miri Ben Ari .
Described by Patti Labelle as ' a bad Lil girl whose violin has a human voice' - Her album 'Symphony of Brotherhood' reached number 2 on the Billboards and girlfriend has won a grammy(for co-writing Jesus Walks). She did the strings in Alicia Keys 'Fallen' and if you ever hear any violin on Kanye West stuff, its Miri. I've always known about Miri but it wasn't till I heard her single 'Miss Melody' with Akon that I felt a star had been born. You totally ignore Akon and simply fall into the music, any1 who can do that is a genius.
Who is Miss Melody?
Born in Israel in 1978, and raised in a small town near Tel Aviv. She began to play the violin as a child and became a classical music prodigy, drawing the attention of legendary classical violinists Isaac Stern and Yehudi Menuhin. He family couldn't afford the lessons and she had to stop, Stern then recommended Ben-Ari for a scholarship from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, she was accepted, and was given her first violin from the organization. When she got to 17 she had to do some compulsory military service(yes o, NYSC equivalent in Israel aren't u glad ur Nigerian now?) She discovered Jazz music there and also performed in the army. In 1997 she came to America and in 2000 somebody introduced her to Wyclef Jean (Sadly, I have met Wyclef and it didnt change my life! lol!) and it she just blew up. According to Miri, she couldn't speak a word of English and she was homeless when she arrived but some how I don't believe this. She performed with Jay-Z at the summer jam and met Kanye(Ah this is who I need to meet then),this was when erritin changed.

Kanye's New Single is unofficially out, its called stronger. Its meant to be from his new Album Graduation day. Its enjoying major airplay in London but its not official on the air in the US and we don't have it yet in Nigeria, but you can limewire it. I might remove this link after a couple of days too( 4 the song). Mos def a club hit and a pick me up. More on Kanye soon..

Rumour has had it for the longest time eva that Da Brat (real name Shawntae Harris) is a lesbian, its never been confirmed but she hasn't denied it either, Back in da day she was supposed to have been going out with Pam (the mannish looking one from TOTAL) but apparently Puff put a stop 2 it coz he was worried about the group's image. But apparently in April at her birthday party in ATL, Da Brat was said to have cracked this joke that confirmed she indeed loves ladies night. Judge for ur self,lol puts a whole new meaning to WHADYA LIKE ft my boi Tyreese. This is the picture of the chick she came with and LEFT with. sO the day has finally come when people are getting sick of B. 2weeks ago a read a pretty harsh review of Beyonce concert at Wembley. It attacked the very essence of B: her ability to CRY, the writer was horrified at B capacity to produce tears on cue, and also tot she needed sidekicks like 'Miss -Bump -Like -this -Rowland' to make a impact. In all fairness I think Beyonce can carry a tune and Dangerously in Love is still an amazing album, the problem was summarized by my friend Ollie 'we dont know who she is' One minute shez talkin bout being ur Sugamama and another shez dissing men, give her another hot second and its 'Jesus loves me this I know'. Peeps were sooo happy she didnt get the Oscar for Dream girls.
HOT 97 DJ Miss Jones who is rumoured to be obsessed with Beyonce recorded this diss- UPSTAGE U. LOL, its pretty cruel!
I useta love seeing Beyonce and have picked alot of my hairstyles from her but that Samsung ad on MTV just put me of her mennnnn!, maybe she needs to disappear for awhile? Yeah, dats it she should go someplace like where Monica is! Anyone know where that is? Lol!

Black Music Month - Series 1
This month is Black Music Month and Music Child will be celebrating black music with a feature of a black artist every week(we wont lie and say everyday) So look out as we celebrate the very good, the bad and the just god damn awful of black music.
Also check out AOL Black Voices for some great black music,interviews and album covers, they even feature Nigerian Artist Fela!
We kick off with a favorite of one of our contributors Milli Vanilli :)
Girl, you know it's true…but unfortunately it wasn't, Anyone aged between 25- late 30''s knows what I'm talking about. In the 80's we were introduced to this gorgeous dance duo whose Grammy-winning triumph turned into a hot mess when their producer revealed that his hunky proteges were mimers. Rob Pilatus from Germany and Fabrizio Morvan came from the ghetto in Paris. There album was what love songs in the 80's where made of- With hits like Girl you know its true, Dont forget my number, Gonna Miss you, All or Nothing and my personal favorite Blame it on the Rain.The ensuing humiliation led to the suicide of Rob Pilatus, whose pain and anguish can be seen on VH1 behind the music here.
As Milli Vanilli, Rob Pilatus and Fabrizio Morvan won the hearts of millions, Their down fall came when the won a Best New Artist Grammy in 1990, They were quoted as saying later "All we didn't want to do was will win the goddamn Grammy, but we won the Grammy" The public’s shock (oh please get over it!) and disappointment gave way to contempt and they mocked these pretty boys to death, although this is surprisingly as most artist now sing to back tracked vocals and mime 8x outta 10.
The two became the butt of jokes and were ostracized by the music industry. For Rob who’d dreamed only of stardom all his life, the fall from grace was nothing less than a nightmare. Both he and Fab turned to drugs and alcohol to numb the pain but Rob found himself unable to stop. He sat down for an interview with VH1 after a second stint in rehab, eerily foreshadowing his own death with talks of friends who had overdosed.
In April of 1998 Rob was discovered by his whistle blower producer Frank Farian in a German hotel room; his heart had failed due to a deadly combination of alcohol and prescription pills. Friends and colleagues remember the fragile, peaceful soul who never got over his youthful mistake. Fab is still alive and tried to revive his career but it was too late. A movie is supposed to be made about them although I have no idea who would want to watch it,lol!
Frank Farian made and broke them, he was also the driving force behind 70's pop group Boney M(remeba them? One boney man with 3 women i think!) He recently put together a production modeled after some Milli Vanilli and Boney M songs in London - Daddy Cool.
If your in London and you wish to relieve the songs that made the 80's check it out!
From this video it should have been obvious that our black brothers couldn't sing for shit(the dialogue sucks) but did we catch on? No!
